Parent Involvement

Picture
Parents play a significant role in the development and implementation of the East Chicago Urban Enterprise Academy program. Regular parent meetings are held to discuss plans and solicit ideas and thoughts from parents in the local and surrounding communities. A collective development of academy policies, procedures and guidelines ensure a responsiveness to parent concerns while, at the same time, maintaining a safe and orderly educational environment for children.

Parents are encouraged to take an active role in the daily educational lives of their children. Volunteering is strongly encouraged through incentive programs for parents, offering rewards for hours of volunteering. Regular parent meetings are held to ensure responsiveness to latent or emerging parent concerns and also to energize families about upcoming events or activities.

Students with involved parents are more likely to:
  • attend school regularly
  • earn higher grades and test scores
  • have better social skills and improved behavior
  • be promoted, pass all their classes and earn credits
  • graduate and go on to post-secondary education
